Heaven's Remembrance Day- Daily devotional from Pastor E.A Adeboye

BIBLE IN A YEAR: Zech 11 - 14

HEAVEN’S REMEMBRANCE DAY
Sunday, December 05, 2010
MEMORIZE: “Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: according to thy mercy remember thou me for thy goodness’ sake, O LORD” (Ps. 25:7)

READ: Genesis 40:20-23

“Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son” (Gen. 18:14).
When God’s time to favor you has dawned, God will overlook your weaknesses and shortcomings and ensure that those connected with your destiny do not rest until they fulfill His purpose in your life. Moreover, when the set time of God’s favor has come, you would be remembered. After being helped by Joseph, the chief butler forgot Joseph in the prison for two years (Gen. 40:23).

But when his set time came, the one who forgot him suddenly remembered him.  If those you have helped fail to help you in return, do not worry: they may not have a part in your destiny.  Even if they do, may be the set time to be remembered has not come. What is important is securing God’s remembrance.  Even when men remember you, help may not come to you.

Are there not some people who have been going through certain unpleasant situations, but you feel helpless over their predicaments? If men remember you but God forgets you, nothing good will result but if God remembers you, every man who forgot you will suddenly remember you and be a blessing to you.  This season, Heaven will remember you for good.

In addition, when the time of your favor comes, God divides the enemy’s camp in your favor.  There was a young man who began a church in Europe. It began to thrive so much that certain enemies arose out of envy that a black man was recording such a phenomenal success. His critics took his case to the government in an attempt to shut down the church gates.

Then the decisive meeting was fixed for a Monday. The preceding Sunday, the son of an influential member of that committee took ill and the preacher was invited to pray for him. He got an immediate healing. So the following day when the case against the church was tabled, the boy’s father sternly objected and said that the man’s ministry will enjoy his full support.  That was how the case was closed. When the time of your favor comes, those who team up against you will end up giving you their support. The enemy loses power over you during your time of favor.

ACTION POINT:
If Heaven’s remembrance is crucial to you, what are you doing to provoke it?  Thank God for past Holy Ghost Congresses. Pray that the Lord will cause every participant at this year’s Congress to celebrate.

Salvation Anointing- Daily devotional from Pastor E.A Adeboye

BIBLE IN A YEAR: Zech 7 -10

SALVATION ANOINTING
Saturday, December 04, 2010
MEMORIZE: “Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over” (Ps. 23:5)

READ:  Matthew 3:1-6

If you lack boldness, you and those under you will become victims of unpleasant events and circumstances. Every leader must be bold. There is no reason to fear especially if you can focus on the strength of your ally - the Jehovah El-Shaddai instead of the situation. The Lord will empower you with boldness this season.

Another tool of a shepherd is the anointing. Psalm 23:5 says, “Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over”. Oil symbolizes anointing. Some people have had to argue that the greatest of Old Testament prophets - John the Baptist did not perform any miracle because he was not anointed.

That is far from the truth! What brought all classes of people from the city to the wilderness to listen to John and repent of their sins was nothing but anointing. What anointing can be greater or of more value than anointing to save souls? The greatest and toughest problem of man is sin, not sickness. Although the blood of Jesus deals with sicknesses and sins, it takes more from God to cleanse and transform a chronic fornicator, thief, smoker or liar into a saint than to heal any sickness.

If people easily give their lives to Christ whenever you preach to them, it is because you are anointed. Ask God to increase the salvation anointing. In fact, the presence of this anointing attracts anointing for miracles, signs and wonders.

What are you anointed for? First, God anoints you to preach the Gospel according to Isaiah 61:1. Preaching without the anointing reduces the Good News to ordinary letters which can only kill. It is the anointing of the Spirit that gives life to the letters of the word for there to be impact. When the anointing is present, the duration or style of message presentation is immaterial.

You could preach with poor English or in any language and souls will break down under the anointing. You could preach for just five minutes, and you will see people coming forward to give their lives to Christ. It was the anointing that empowered Jesus to do all He did (Acts 10:38). As a leader, you must be anointed. You must continue to seek God to increase it to an overflowing level. Do you have salvation anointing? Or are you only asking for anointing for miracles? Go for gold in the anointing!

ACTION POINT:
If your anointing is to heal the sick and raise the dead without saving souls, that anointing is fake. God’s anointing is primarily to save souls: All other miracles and signs afterwards are to back up that primary objective.

Once saved forever saved? Nicolaitane?- Daily devotional from Pastor E.A Adeboye

BIBLE IN A YEAR: Zech 4 -6

A NICOLAITANE?
Friday, December 3, 2010
MEMORIZE: “Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them” (Rom. 16:17)

READ: Rev. 2:1-7

In Revelation chapter 2 and 3, the Lord wrote letters to seven churches which are a symbol of the church today.  The first was addressed to the church at Ephesus, which was an Asian market place and banking nerve centre of the world then because it had a great safe in the temple of Diana. Anything kept there was said to be totally safe. The city of Ephesus was very religious with Diana as the matron goddess of prostitutes.

The temple of Diana was one of the seven wonders of the ancient world having 20 pillars each 60 feet high, 36 of which were gold-plated. In that temple were devoted prostitutes who were ready to minister to anybody through fornication. Also, any criminal that found his way into that temple was deemed free. In this city was a very strong and vibrant church to which much of Paul’s time was devoted.  Timothy, a strong believer was its first Bishop and had eminent supporters such as Aquila, Priscilla, Apollos and John.

One lesson we learn from this letter is that because Jesus Christ has the stars - pastors of the churches in His hands, He can take care of them and their needs. Are you a minister of God? The Lord can and will take care of you and those under your ministry. And because you are in His hands, He knows and monitors all your movements. Each time you slip or stray from His will, He knows.

In addition, the Lord acknowledged that the church at Ephesus hated what He hated. One thing that stands you out as a believer is your ability to hate what Jesus hates and love what He loves. If you have been recreated in Christ, old things have passed away - including your passions, desires, and inordinate ambitions. The new birth affects your tastes and life-style.  It is a change that when it occurs, affects every nook and cranny of your life.

Do you love what He loves and hate what He hates? Moreover, the Lord said He hated the Nicolaitanes because they believe and teach that once you are saved, you are forever saved, the sins you commit afterwards notwithstanding. Although proponents of such erroneous teachings are still with us today, they have however modified their approach. Anyone who tells you that it is impossible to be totally perfect or holy is a Nicolaitane. If because you are struggling with your flesh you begin to teach that no one can be holy, you are pitching your tent in the enemy’s camp and calling for judgment.  Repent today and turn a new leaf.

ACTION POINT:
Worship the Holy Spirit for an hour today.  Ask Him to reveal Himself to you.

IT'S MADNESS- Daily devotional from Pastor E.A Adeboye

BIBLE IN A YEAR: Zech 1-3

IT’S MADNESS
Thursday, December 2, 2010
MEMORIZE: “When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things” (1 Cor. 13:11)

READ: 1 Corinthians 13:9-12

In the story of the prodigal son recorded in Luke 15:11-32, we see an example of three governments in operation. First, the younger son began with self-government. Whenever young people decide to live like they like, it is because they think they have come of age. Unfortunately, age does not bestow wisdom on everyone except those who have paid some price to have it.

This is why you see a man of 40 or 50 still speaking, thinking, acting and planning like a child. According to today’s passage, they have refused to dump childish traits and toys. Anyone under self-government can be likened to a child. His or her thinking, planning and actions will be very shallow.  One thing you can be sure of is that everyone under self-government sooner or later will get into trouble that would make them to further degenerate to the government of Satan. When your knowledge, strength, human connections and other resources have failed you, there is tendency to yield to Satan’s government.

This is why many run to witch doctors, spiritualists and occult groups who cannot help themselves to help them. The prodigal son took up the job of feeding swines yet, inspite of his hardwork, his employer refused to feed him. Satan is a terrible task master.  If you go to him in time of trouble, he will worsen your lot. One thing is certain: you cannot go to Satan or his agent and allow him to rule over your life without leaving worse and counting more losses.

When Satan takes over your life, he will use you without reward. He will torment the fellow with fear and threats. He will make promises that he will not keep. And if you are bold enough to challenge him for breaking his covenant, he could destroy the fellow.  If you visit Satan or his agent with one problem, you may leave with 10. All the time the prodigal son was feeding swines, he was not himself. He was out of his mind.

It could be said that those under Satan’s government are in a class of madness. Why would a woman who out of fear runs to witch doctors to protect her child, eventually donates her as food to those who should have protected her? Only madness explains this. Before the prodigal son could think clearly, he came to himself.  When he returned to his father, another government - divine government began.

ACTION POINT:
Those with problems who go to the devil - their arch-enemy for help would have given him the legal grounds to torment them beyond measure.

UNCERTAIN DEPARTURE-Daily devotional by Pastor E.A Adeboye

BIBLE IN A YEAR: 2 & 3 John, Jude

UNCERTAIN DEPARTURE
Wednesday, December 1, 2010
MEMORIZE: “But this I say, brethren, the time is short: it remaineth, that both they that have wives be as though they had none;” (1 Cor. 7:29)

READ: 1 Corinthians 7:29-31

“Remember how short my time is: wherefore hast thou made all men in vain” (Ps. 89:47). Everyone is given time as a major resource for accomplishing the various assignments to be done on earth. The unfortunate thing about this is that we are not sure of the exact time we have on earth. If you have a million naira, you will know how to budget and spread it over your most important needs.

But how can you spend an amount you do not know of? Ecclesiastes 9:12 says, “For man knoweth not his time: as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare: so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falleth suddenly upon them”. When fishes swim in the river, none of them can tell the day they would end up in the cooking pot of a human being.

In this situation, men are compared with fishes and birds of prey.  You do not know when your time will be up.  You may try to think it through but you may not be sure of the exact time except God reveals it specifically to you. Jacob thought getting his wife would require just seven years but it cost him double. Some people think they still have up to 20 years to live but they have even less than half of that time. There is so much uncertainty about this and that is where wisdom comes in.

Since you are not sure of your time of departure from earth, prayerfully set your goals and draw up a planned timetable that will help you accomplish the set goals. Reduce everything wasting your time. Avoid fruitless efforts.  For instance, do not jump at any opening, opportunity or offer until you have sufficiently prayed about it and heard directly from God on the matter.

Some people consider this a waste of time so they take their lives in their hands and plunge in only to discover later that they made a mistake. The time you spend waiting on the Lord is not wasted.  Rather, that will prevent you from wasting more time. Some people prefer to keep trying their hands in every career, job or business rather than wait on God for precise direction. If you will be wise, first hear from God before you act. It saves you time and other resources. Similarly, everyday must be lived in righteousness.  Settle all debts or restitutions. Release your offenders and ask for the forgiveness of those you offended.

ACTION POINT:
Some people leave the earth without achieving any goal God has set for them, while people like Paul accomplished all Heaven’s goals for him and he still had sometime to toy with.

Empower positive confessions- Daily devotional by Pastor E. A Adeboye

BIBLE IN A YEAR: 1 John 3-5

EMPOWER POSITIVE CONFESSIONS
Tuesday, November 30, 2010
MEMORIZE: “Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy  works, and I will shew thee my faith by my  works” (James 2:18)

READ: James 2:14-18

According to Proverbs 22:29, the quality of your work determines the quality of people before whom you will stand. If you are lazy or do your work shabbily, you will continue to frolic with commoners. But if you take pains to deliver outstanding services, over a period of time, a place will be created for you among princes. It is either your work is opening doors for you or shutting doors against you.

What is the quality of your service? If you desire breakthrough, reconsider the quality of your output. You must be hard-working.  Do you know that all the 12 disciples Jesus called were hard-working people? Peter was a very skilled and hard-working fisherman before he was called to the ministry.  Matthew was called right in his office as he was collecting taxes.  Some people have skills: they have acquired certificates and lots of knowledge but they never put them to work. That is laziness. Some people claim to be believers yet, they are never found at their duty posts. Such people can never stand before kings.

One common error among Christians today is to expect that you could confess your way through success without backing it up with works. Oh! How wrong! Some of my friends fell into this error.  They would regularly confess: “ I am the head and not the tail; I shall prosper and lend to nations. I am a millionaire and I possess a good car by faith”. Because they failed to back up their confessions with a commensurate level of works, after five years of positive confessions, they could not move an inch from where they were.

Ideally, your confessions should be preceded by your works. After David said he would defeat Goliath, he backed his faith confessions by works - picking stones, and his sling shot, advancing towards the enemy and hurling a shot at him. Your works empower your confessions.  If all you do is confess: ‘I shall not die poor’ but  you refuse to engage in something that can fetch you sustenance, that fellow would surely die in poverty.  When confessions are bereft of works, they become empty words.

ACTION POINT:
For every good desire of your heart that you are trusting God for, list the steps you will take that will help to bring your desires into reality.

You must part with something- Daily devotional by Pastor E. A Adeboye

BIBLE IN A YEAR: 1 John 1-2

YOU MUST PART WITH SOMETHING
Monday, November 29, 2010
MEMORIZE: “He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live” (Prov.15:27)

READ: Prov. 15:25-27

A price must be paid to enter into your unlimited greatness. You must be prepared to part with what you have in exchange for what you need. Why many who are asking for certain blessings cannot have them yet is because they are not prepared to pay the price. The widow of 2 Kings 4:1-8 parted with her only bottle of oil before she could enter into her financial harvest.

She also parted with her human reasoning and accepted God’s mathematics even when she could not understand it. She completely relied on the Lord. Have you parted with those things you are holding so dearly to? As long as you cling to that only ‘bottle of oil’, and your human calculations, you may never access your desired breakthrough.

A certain poor widow who catered for 17 people attended one of our meetings one day and the Lord said that someone was about to receive three breakthroughs: The first one was entirely for God; the second would be shared 50/50 between the recipient and God, while the third would be for the recipient. On receiving what she believed was the first breakthrough, this widow came to me and handed over the money saying that she was the one the Lord spoke about in the meeting.

A bit scared, especially considering her enormous responsibility as a result of the death of her husband, I told her she was not the one the Lord spoke about and that she needed all she could get to enable her cater for her large family. But she insisted saying if I did not receive that one, I would hinder her from the second and third. Eventually I received the money and encouraged her faith. Not long after, she got both the second and third breakthroughs according to the word of the Lord and her faith. She became a director of one of the biggest banks in Nigeria. You have to part with something.

Be prepared to make a sacrifice. What hinders many is greed. People do not only manifest greed towards fellow men but also towards God. For instance, it is sheer greed for a believer not to be able to pay his or her tithe. God provides you an income and says ‘Bring a tenth for me to sustain or renew your blessing while you keep the rest’, yet many because of greed and tight-fistedness refuse and at the end scatter their blessing. Part with that thing and enter into your next level of greatness!

ACTION POINT:
When God speaks and you keep refusing to obey, a time comes when you would no longer be sensitive to His voice and He will no longer speak to you. Obey His voice today!

WHEN MISTAKES DON'T COUNT- Daily devotional by Pastor E. A Adeboye

BIBLE IN A YEAR: SOS 7 - 8

WHEN MISTAKES DON’T COUNT
Sunday, November 28, 2010
MEMORIZE: “Yea, before the day was I am he; and there is none that can deliver out of my hand: I will work, and who shall let it?” (Is. 43:13)

READ: Genesis 18:9-15

Another indicator of the arrival of your time of divine favor is that God overlooks your shortcomings. Doubt, fear and unbelief - three major terminators of destiny will suddenly be set aside when your time to receive God’s favor has come. Ordinarily, Sarah’s laughter in today’s reading regarding God’s promise was enough to stop her since she did not receive that promise with faith (Heb. 4:2), yet, because it was her time of favor, instead of hindering it, it rather propelled it; in fact, God celebrated her doubt and the child of promise was named Isaac - laughter!

One thing we learn from this is that the same weapon Satan would normally use to withhold your blessing will stop being a weapon against you. It suddenly loses its power to hinder you because of divine favor.  In Isaiah 43:13, the Lord says, “Yea, before the day was I am he; and there is none that can deliver out of my hand: I will work, and who shall let it?”

When your time of favor comes, nobody can hinder God from working because whatever He is doing will not be based on your limitations or performance but on His ability and Almightiness.  At such a time, God just wants to prove that He is Almighty.  When your day comes, what you do not have -certificate, expert knowledge, connection with influential people, money, appropriate skill, etc. will not hinder your breakthrough.

In addition, when the time of your favor comes, God keeps your helper troubled until you receive the help in his custody.  God gave Joseph’s helper a frightening dream so that he could seek solution from Joseph. When the time of your favor comes, God will specially design a problem and put the solution into your hands so that no matter what happens, all roads will lead to Rome - to you!

God can do just anything for the one whose turn for divine favor has come. This season, the Lord will design a problem and put its only key in your hands. Those in authority will have a challenge that only you can fix. Wherever you are, they shall declare a search party for you until they find you. The Lord has chosen you for favor this season. It shall be well with you.

ACTION POINT:
Father, thank You for Your divine favor.  Oh Lord, let my day of favor meet me in Your will, not in disobedience.

BE BOLD- Daily devotional by Pastor E. A Adeboye

BIBLE IN A YEAR: SOS 4 -6

BE BOLD
Saturday, November 27, 2010
MEMORIZE: “The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion” (Prov. 28:1)

READ: John 10:10-15

Besides correct application of God’s Word to situations, another indispensable tool of a shepherd is boldness. David acknowledged God’s presence with him as the Good Shepherd (Psalm 23:4) No leader can achieve without boldness. It takes courage to follow God. It takes courage to obey God. Anyone who lacks courage will be full of fear. If you are afraid, you cannot take any progressive stride.

A hireling fears and hides when the sheep is confronted by wolves because he thinks of his safety before anything else. A shepherd on the other hand is bold and resists any wolf even at the detriment of his own life. In John 10:11, Jesus says, “I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep”. A true shepherd is not afraid of danger. Some pastors or leaders are not available when their members are in distress; but that is when you should be with them to stand with them in faith, and prayer and guide them properly.

You cannot allow a strange beast to take advantage of your flock. You must fight all intruders and send them packing. This takes boldness. Your ability to be bold in the face of danger enhances your power base. Some leaders are so chicken- hearted. Every little situation gets them into a panic. 2 Timothy 1:7 says the Spirit God has deposited within you is never afraid but bold. Where is your courage?

Do you know that even great leaders suffer from fear? One outstanding leader with a great congregation in Bible times who lacked boldness was Joshua. As near perfect as he was, Joshua was afraid. He was afraid to stand in Moses’ shoes. He was afraid when he realized that he was asked to finish the assignment that his predecessor Moses, with all the anointing to open and shut Heaven could not finish. He was afraid whenever he thought of the sudden promotion he got from servanthood to national leader with millions under him.

He was afraid when he remembered he was called to lead a recalcitrant and impossible congregation who were capable of revolting and stoning their leaders to death. Why are you afraid? Do not look at the nature of the assignment. Do not look at the size. Do not look at the fierce looking faces. Do not focus on the situation of lack of resources. Focus on the One who has called you. He will see you through. Ask for the Spirit of boldness to manifest in every area of your life from today.

ACTION POINT:
Father, thank You for giving me the Spirit of boldness. Help me to express Your courage over every situation confronting me.
