Great Grace -OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE

BIBLE IN A YEAR: Num 7-10

GREAT GRACE
The Quickening: Entering into the Firestorm of God's Grace

Tuesday, March 16, 2010

MEMORIZE: “And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all” (Acts 4:33)

READ: Acts 4:32-33

During the period of grace, God’s fiery judgment could fall on the disobedient. In the Early Church, Ananias and Sapphira were victims of the Consuming Fire at a time of grace (Acts 5:1-11). Grace period is a period of divine mercy at its best. Yet, when people are basking in God’s mercy, some are being roasted by God’s indignation. May you not be roasted in a time of grace! In 1 Samuel 16:14, immediately the Spirit of God came on David, He left king Saul and an unclean spirit silently moved in.

In a matter of seconds, a very sane, rational looking king became a mad man. It was instant! He died in that state! In the same vein, as soon as the Holy Spirit left Samson in Judges 16:20-21, the supernatural gave way for the natural and within minutes, he lost his eyes, was bound and taken to prison. One lesson from this is that believers should not toy with sin because the devil is just looking for one moment of carelessness and then he will strike.

There are some who could not recover from such a well-timed attack. Be on your guard always because the devil is on the prowl looking for the right moment when you compromise or decide to indulge in sin even for once; You may lose your eyes like Samson and never be able to regain your sight.

Moreover, being a gracious God, once in a while, God may look at somebody and say, “Alright, having shown him my power, let us give him another opportunity to repent so that he can be restored”. This was what happened to Nebuchadnezzar. I am ever amazed at the power of grace each time I study the story of king Nebuchadnezzar. He was dethroned for seven years yet nobody took his throne. In those days, the battle was intense to grab the throne.

Kings fought one another to overthrow their opponents; even children fought to dethrone their fathers. Yet, Nebuchadnezzar’s throne was kept for him. That was nothing but grace! Similarly, Samson’s hair began to grow again and the ex-warrior became a warrior again as he cried for restoration. Have you backslidden? Are you down in the pit of sin and you look beaten, defeated and crushed? You could be back on your feet. There is restoration at His presence. Call on Him to restore you now. You can receive of God’s grace this moment if only you are willing.

ACTION POINT:
Father, let me enjoy every provision of grace during this period of grace.
