Following God's Timetable for your life- Open Heavens devotional by Pastor E. A Adeboye

BIBLE IN A YEAR: Ps 103-105

FOLLOWING GOD’S TIMETABLE
Sunday, November 07, 2010
MEMORIZE: “Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son” (Gen. 18:14)

READ: Acts 1:1-4

God operates a different time frame from human beings.  While our days are measured between seconds and years, God operates in eternity which has only one long and unending day.  Speaking of this, Peter says the difference between both time frames could be so sharp that our 1000 years could be an equivalent of a day out of God’s eternity span and vice versa (2 Peter 3:8).  With us there is time but with God there is only timing. Another significant thing about God and time is that He cannot be rushed. He does things according to His divine plan and timetable.

For instance, the smell of Pentecost that was imminent, just like Christmas a few days before December 25, did not hasten God who had to wait for Pentecost to fully come before releasing His Holy Spirit to come to earth (Acts 2:1). There is a set time for every blessing of God to locate you. What you ought to do is find out by the help of the Spirit so that you can align your timetable with His. Many times, we plan ahead of God in many issues. In your personal timetable, it may be time for you to flourish but it may not yet be time for that in God’s timetable for you. Frustration comes when you think the time for an issue has come and you do everything to push God to do His part, whereas God will not move because He knows you are planning outside His timing.

God’s approved time for your blessing is the best.  If everyone else is changing their cars to Jeep, what makes you think God wants you to have a Jeep? And if He does, He has His time for it. You may be asking for certain blessings 5,10, 20, or even 30 years ahead of Heaven’s time.  There is nothing wrong in asking: just wait until God is ready to release the blessing to you according to His time. Any blessing that comes ahead of Heaven’s set time cannot be guaranteed its original form of blessing.

It could lose all its wonderful attachment and end up as a curse. What is important is not just being blessed or receiving an answer to prayer, but in having these blessings according to God’s set timetable.  When Jesus wanted to go and heal Lazarus while the latter was sick, the Holy Spirit asked Him to wait. He had to delay until Lazarus died and was stinking before He asked Him to go. In the end, a bigger miracle surfaced and God’s name was more highly magnified over the miracle.

ACTION POINT:
Christians who rush God end up reducing the mileage of His glory. Father, give me the grace to flow with your timing for every aspect of my life.
